The WIREGRASS SHAKER is a mobile sifting device that facilitates archaeological fieldwork at all levels. Whether conducting initial site location assessments, site evaluations, or site mitigation, this machine will decrease the time needed to process soil. Wiregrass Archaeological Consulting developed this product as a result of the need for more efficient field methods. The Wiregrass Shaker has been successfully used for archaeological fieldwork. It can be used as a stationary screening device on excavations or used to cover large surveys quickly.
Powered by a gasoline/oil motor and built out of lightweight but sturdy aluminum, the Wiregrass Shaker has the power and durability to handle the wear and tear of field conditions. It can easily be installed into a 2” receiver on a vehicle or UTV (as pictured below). An adjustable hitch allows for height variation. With the turn of only four screws, the motor can be removed from the body of the shaker, thus allowing for separate storage for the motor assembly. Also, with the motor off, one person can install the shaker frame. With the motor attached, two people are necessary to install the Wiregrass Shaker.
